Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: The Aging and Adult Services and Adult Placement and Prevention Teams provide specialized services necessary to fulfill the legal mandate assuring that adults who are disabled, aging and vulnerable are protected and receiving adequate care and that they are able to reach their full potential, maintaining as much independence as they are able to manage. Program services include Adult Protective Services, Special Assistance In-home Services, Community Alternatives Program (CAP/DA), Group Care and Placement Services, Guardianship, Representative Payee services, Adult Home Specialist Services, Meals on Wheels, Services for the Blind, Adult Day Care/Health Program and general Case Management Services. Adult Protective Services are necessary to protect disabled adults from abuse, neglect, or exploitation. In-home and Community-based services for adults are activities directed toward enabling the adult to avoid inappropriate out-of-home placement. Adult group care and placement services are activities necessary to assist individuals in finding a substitute home or residential health care facility suitable to their needs when they are unable to remain in their current living situation. Mandated activities related to the licensure/certification and supervision of adult care homes, assisted living facilities and adult day programs are also provided through the Aging and Adult Services Program. Services for the Blind are provided through a State-cooperative, which allows for local service delivery through the Aging and Adult Services Unit.

 

 

Primary Purpose of the Position: The purpose of this position is to provide direct supervision and leadership to an Aging and Adult Services Team, which consists of (7) Social Workers. The person in this position is responsible for assuring that the unit is in compliance with agency/state standards, policy and law. Additionally, this position is charged with the day-to-day provision of all Adult Service Programs offered by the agency and is required to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of individual workers and the team as a whole. The person in this position will work in concert with other unit/team supervisors to ensure effective communication, coordination, and cooperation between units so that citizens are served according to the overall mission of the agency. Likewise, the Adult Services Supervisor will be required to establish effective working relationships with persons throughout the county and state who also serve the adult, aging, disabled population. This position has responsibility as part of the agency Leadership Team in identifying results the agency expects to achieve, being a part of that on-gong process, to be a role model for staff in this and other units, to look out for the needs of the entire agency and work to address them.

  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of methods and principles of casework supervision and training. Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to specific casework and community problems. Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and community resources. Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies which govern social work programs. Ability to supervise, train, or orient lower-level social workers, students, interns, or other staff. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.

 

 

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements: Master’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or a master’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of directly related experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Training/Experience: No license or certification required, although Social Work Certification is encouraged.

 

 

Additional Requirements: Applicants must submit official college transcripts. Applicants must have NC Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.The applicant must have a clean driving record with no more than three (3) points showing on current DMV record.
