In 2026, North Carolina will hold its Primary on March 3, 2026.  In-Person Early Voting will begin on February 12 and end on February 28.  Each candidate that wins in each contest on their Party’s ballot will become the nominee who will appear on the ballot in the November General Election to be held on Nov. 3, 2026.  


North Carolina state law provides for semi-closed primaries, meaning…


  • Voters registered as Republican (REP), must vote a REP ballot.  
  • Voters registered as Democrat (DEM), must vote a DEM ballot.
  • Voters registered as Unaffiliated (UNA), will choose either a REP or DEM ballot.

PHOTO ID REQUIREMENTS

Voters will be asked to show photo ID when voting in North Carolina. For most voters, they will simply show their driver license or state identification card. But there are many other acceptable photo IDs listed at Voter ID | NCSBE. If a voter does not have an acceptable photo ID, they may obtain a No-Fee ID at NCDMV
