Surrendering a Pet

We know the choice to surrender a pet is a difficult one and we are here to help.

Haywood County Animal Services uses a MANAGED INTAKE system which allows us to operate within our capacity for care and save more lives.

Due to the overwhelming number of animals needing to be surrendered, all owners are initially placed on a waiting list.  In order to be added to this list, owners must first complete the Owner Surrender Information Form online or in person at our Jones Cove Road location. Please complete this form in as much detail as possible. This form goes to our Intake Counselors who will review it and be in touch as soon as space allows.

Please note there is a $40 OWNER SURRENDER FEE for dogs/cats and A $10 OWNER SURRENDER FEE for all other animals DUE AT THE TIME OF SURRENDER, PAYABLE BY CASH OR CHECK ONLY.

In the meantime, please attempt to rehome pets through other avenues such as rescues or social media.
