Haywood County, NC – February 13, 2024 – Haywood County is pleased to announce the appointment of Elizabeth (Elli) Flagg as the new Recreation Director for Haywood County, effective February 19th, 2024.
Elli brings with her a wealth of experience and a strong passion for community recreation. Previously, serving as the Recreation Director in Craig, Alaska, Flagg has demonstrated exceptional leadership and innovation in her role. Her background in recreational management, combined with her dedication to fostering community engagement, makes her an ideal fit for Haywood County.
Flagg's journey in recreational management began at Clemson University, where she honed her skills and developed a deep understanding of the field. Her commitment to excellence led her to pursue further education abroad at Bond University in Gold Coast, Australia, broadening her perspective and enriching her expertise. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management.
A native of Georgia, Flagg's roots in the Southeastern United States have cultivated her understanding of the unique recreational needs and interests of the region's communities. Her diverse experiences, both domestically and internationally, have equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of effective recreational programming and management strategies.
During her tenure in Craig, Alaska, Flagg implemented foundational policies, procedures, financial management practices, and asset organizational systems that significantly enhanced the efficiency and effectiveness of recreational services. Her visionary leadership and collaborative approach have empowered individuals of all ages and backgrounds to actively participate in recreational activities, fostering healthier and more vibrant communities.

Elizabeth will oversee the continued growth of the outdoor recreational programming and the new bike park featuring a pump track, a kiddie track, and a skill course to learn mountain biking.
